Copper Spool Wire
What Is Copper Spool Wire?
|
In today's age with everything being electrical, just about all wiring and cables use copper spool wire. Back in 1964, the use of copper spool wire was only 69% and today it is used in over 93% of its applications. From a telephone, to a lamp, to the largest run network of computers, copper spool wire has been the choice. There is new uses of fiber optic wire arising but copper spool wire is still used due to the price and its reliability. The aluminum wire market is mostly used for feeder cable for commercial buildings and in the service entrance cable in residential structures. Aluminum is mainly used because it is cheaper then copper but the copper spool wire is far more recognized as having more quality. The main problem with aluminum wire that they have not found with copper spool wire is that over time the connectors get loosened and there have to be many "callbacks" to tighten up these connectors. With copper spool wire, you do not have this to worry about. Copper spool wire is on the up rise. There is a large demand due to the number of buildings that have been inadequately wired and with the rise of networking computers within these buildings, there are such problems as too few circuits, too few outlets, nuisance tripping of circuit breakers or blown fuses from overloading. This has cause an overwhelming demand in building wire shipments of copper spool wire in order to rewire all of these structures in order to hold the load of the new computer age. There is a standard wire gauge when using the copper spool wire. In America, this gauge is called the AWG which mean American Wire Gage. They are also rated by the National Electrical Code according to their current carrying capacity. The smallest copper spool wire for carrying currents up to 15 amperes which are represented as A, is AWG no. 14 which is 1.63 mm in diameter. The AWG gage numbers for the copper spool wire is actually standard building wire sizes, so the lower the AWG number, the larger the wire size. Typically the AWG 12 is the most used and it carries 20 A. When analyzing the wire market, wire size is an important factor. Because of the trend of switching AWG 14 for AWG 12, there is more copper spool wire in the AWG 12 so the more of this wire that is ordered, the more demand for copper spool wire there will be. |
